Quick answer: Keep it voluntary, limit the group to people who want to play, set one Monday-to-Sunday round, and agree that step totals are for the game rather than work evaluation.
Make the invitation genuinely optional
For a small team, the first decision is social rather than technical: who wants to join? Ask privately and accept a no without follow-up. Do not connect the leaderboard to performance reviews, attendance, or team status. Colleagues may have different health needs, schedules, and feelings about sharing activity data. A coworker can join a group walk or the conversation without appearing on the step board; arrange that outside the app.
MovePeeps is built for private groups of two to eight people, which can suit a small group of willing coworkers. It is not a company wellness dashboard. If you need reporting for many employees, choose a workplace tool and agree on its data policy first.
Write down the round before it starts
- Dates: Choose one Monday-to-Sunday week and send the dates in the invitation.
- Score: Say whether the highest weekly step total wins and how ties are handled.
- Visibility: Explain who can see the group totals. Keep screenshots out of wider work channels unless everyone agrees.
- Sync: Ask people to connect and check their step source before day one. Explain that totals can arrive late.
A remote team may span time zones. The app's weekly competition is Monday to Sunday; agree in the chat when you will announce the result so no one assumes a live midnight cutoff in their own time zone.
Copy a voluntary team invitation
Anyone interested in a private walking challenge from Monday 5 October to Sunday 11 October? Joining is optional. Only members of the group will see the step totals; we will not share them in work reports. Reply to me by Friday 2 October and I will send the invite. You can also join our walking chat without a score.
Replace the dates with your week and send the message only to the people you intend to invite. Make a team challenge brief if you want to adjust the wording.
Use one midweek nudge
Try a message that starts a conversation rather than a score check: “What is a good five-minute walk near you?” People who prefer not to share their number can still talk about a route, a view, or a useful break. Avoid a stream of reminders during work hours.
Close the week cleanly
Ask members to check their connected totals, then announce the result after everyone has had time to sync. Share the final standings only inside the group, thank everyone who joined, and ask whether they want another round. A coffee chosen by the winner is usually easier than a prize budget. If you need copy for the final message, use the step challenge message templates.
Plan your first round
MovePeeps is being prepared for a private Monday-to-Sunday step competition for two to eight people. Members will connect their phone’s health platform and see the group’s step totals on one leaderboard. Join the waitlist to hear when the app is ready, or use the challenge generator to draft an invite now.
If a step total looks delayed or an invite does not work, visit MovePeeps support. See the privacy policy for what the app reads and shares.
