Quick answer: Use the same Monday-to-Sunday window for everyone, count the daily step total from each person's connected health platform, and write down the tie and sync rules before day one.
1. Set one time window
Choose a start and finish that apply to every member. Monday through Sunday is easy to remember and gives the group a clean weekly rhythm. Put the dates in the invite instead of saying "next week."
Do not quietly extend the round for one person. If a technical problem affects the whole group, pause and agree on a new finish time in the chat.
2. Use one source of truth for steps
Agree that the challenge uses the daily step total from each person's connected phone health platform. Do not mix a screenshot from one app with a manually typed number from another unless the group has a clear reason and accepts the extra checking.
MovePeeps reads the step total needed for the private competition from the connected health platform after the person grants permission. For account or sync questions, use MovePeeps support.
3. Choose the scoring rule before the first day
The simplest rule is highest total steps at the end of the round. If your group wants a different shape, agree on it before anyone starts:
- Highest weekly total rewards the most steps across the full week.
- Most consistent rewards showing up on the most days.
- Best daily average rewards a steady pace, with a cap if the group chooses one.
Do not add bonus points halfway through. A rule can be lighthearted without being a surprise.
4. Make privacy part of the rules
Say who can see the result. For a friends or family challenge, a private group is usually enough. People should not need to share routes, locations, or raw health records to compare a step total.
MovePeeps groups are private and undiscoverable. Only members of the group can see its competition totals. Read the privacy policy for the data details.
5. Write down the sync fallback
Step totals can arrive late or look incomplete when a phone has not synced. Give people a calm process: open the app while online, check the connected health permission, and tell the group before the round ends if the number still looks wrong.
Do not change a person's total from a screenshot without telling everyone. The group should know which number counted and why.
6. Decide ties in advance
The easiest tie rule is to share the win. If your group wants one winner, use a rule everyone can understand before the round starts, such as the person with more days at the top of the board.
A shared win is often the better choice for a small group. It keeps a close result from becoming an argument about decimal points.
Copy-and-share rules
Our round runs Monday through Sunday. We count the daily step total from each person's connected health platform. The highest total wins, and ties share the win. If a number looks delayed, tell the group before Sunday night so we can check the sync together. The group is private, and nobody needs to share routes or locations.
For the rest of the setup, follow the weekly step challenge guide, or use the challenge generator to turn these rules into an invite. Return to the walking guides when you want another idea.
