Quick answer: Invite only people who agree to share step totals with one another, use a private group, and keep screenshots and health details out of wider chats. Check the app’s permissions before the first round.
Decide what “private” means to your group
For a private step challenge, agree on three things before anyone joins: who can enter, what the other members can see, and where results can be shared. A closed invite is only one part of privacy. A screenshot posted to a larger chat can expose a person's step total even if the original leaderboard was restricted.
Keep the first group small and ask each person directly. Someone may enjoy a walk with you without wanting their activity number on a board. Give them an easy way to decline without explanation.
Use a short privacy checklist
- Send the invite only to people who want to join.
- Explain that members can see competition step totals in the app, including daily and week-to-date information.
- Check which health data the app asks to read. A simple step game should not need a live location.
- Agree that no one reposts leaderboard screenshots outside the group without permission.
- Decide what to do if a member leaves or a phone stops syncing.
What MovePeeps shares
MovePeeps groups are private and undiscoverable. A person joins through a valid invite link or code. Members of that group see the competition step totals, and a group can have two to eight people. After permission is granted, the app reads the daily step total from Apple HealthKit or Android Health Connect. It does not upload raw HealthKit or Health Connect records or request routes, GPS location, or contacts for the challenge.
That is a specific privacy model, not a promise that no one in your group can share what they see. Read the MovePeeps privacy policy before inviting others, and use your own group agreement about screenshots and chat messages.
Send an invite that sets expectations
Want to join a private Monday-to-Sunday step challenge? Only members can view the step totals in the app. Please do not share screenshots or totals outside our group without permission. Reply yes and I will send the invite link directly.
Send invites directly rather than posting the link in a wider chat. Ask each member to check their step permission and agree on screenshot sharing before Monday. If someone leaves, ask the group how it wants to discuss past results without reposting their numbers. Then follow the weekly challenge plan for dates and check-ins.
Plan your first round
MovePeeps is being prepared for a private Monday-to-Sunday step competition for two to eight people. Members will connect their phone’s health platform and see the group’s step totals on one leaderboard. Join the waitlist to hear when the app is ready, or use the challenge generator to draft an invite now.
If a step total looks delayed or an invite does not work, visit MovePeeps support. See the privacy policy for what the app reads and shares.
